Street cleaning schedules

The frequency with which a street is cleaned depends on its use.

The standards of cleanliness which must be maintained are contained within the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and Code of Practice for litter and refuse. This is reflected in our schedule of street cleaning as follows:

  • Guildford Town Centre is cleaned throughout the day with a continual street cleaning staff presence.

  • Rural shopping parades and some areas around the town centre are cleaned daily.

  • Other residential areas and rural roads will usually be checked and cleaned fortnightly by litter patrols.

  • The trunk roads (A3, A31 and A331) within Guildford present specific difficulties and have a distinct cleaning approach. Find out more on our trunk road webpage.
