Get Online Week - 2 to 8 October

The theme of this year's Get Online Week is - Try 1 Thing. The aim is to encourage people to use the internet for a task they would normally do 'in real life', such as shopping, renewing a library book, booking a doctor's appointment or going to the bank.

If you know someone who lacks confidence in using computers or the internet for everyday tasks, then take a look at the free taster sessions offered by Surrey County Council and its partners as part of Get Online Week (2 to 8 October).

Free, drop-in sessions will be running in Guildford and across the borough.

The sessions are open to all but may be particularly helpful for elderly and disabled residents by teaching them how to:

  • use email and social media

  • shop securely online

  • video call friends and family

  • apply for services online.

Advice is also available on buying a computer or tablet.

Learning basic computing and internet skills can make life easier, cheaper and more fun, as well as helping people stay in touch with relatives and friends.

Pick up a Get Online Week leaflet in your local library or visit free taster sessions for more information.
