Sports activities for staff
We offer a number of sports clubs and activities to our staff to promote their health and wellbeing.

These sports clubs and activities are based at Millmead and other locations in the borough, such as Stoke Park, Guildford Spectrum and the Surrey Sports Park and take place outside of working hours.
What's on offer
We offer the following sports clubs and activities to our staff:
Football
A regular five-a-side football game is played every week and there are local football teams that our staff can get involved in.
Running
Runners of all standards are welcome and we have a variety of running groups that meet weekly.
We offer a beginners' running group (0 to 1 mile), and an improvers' running group (developing running to 5k). We also offer an experienced running group (5k or above) and a trail running group for those who can comfortably run 5 to 10k on the roads and want to get an introduction into running off road.
All our running groups are organised by an England Athletics accredited run leader.
Walking
We arrange a regular guided short walk, usually at lunchtime. The walks offer our staff the opportunity to see more of Guildford and to get some exercise during their lunch break. We also support the annual Walkfest; a festival of over 50 walks ranging from urban walks to countryside strolls and long-distance treks.
Badminton
Our Badminton group meets once a week at the Spectrum Leisure Centre in Guildford. No skill required - just a friendly game (or two) of badminton where you can meet new colleagues and wind down after a day's work.
Golf
Millmead Golf Society runs approximately ten events per year at local courses. The Society runs some individual and pairs competitions. Participation is welcomed from any member of staff, irrespective of ability.
Yoga
Our staff can access a weekly lunchtime yoga class (there is a charge). Beginners are welcome and courses run in school term times.
Netball
We offer weekly sessions that provide a gentle introduction to the sport. The emphasis of these sessions is on learning new skills and having fun.
Pickleball
We offer our staff the opportunity to try out this new sport, originally from the USA. All playing equipment is provided and all abilities are welcome.
Rugby
Sessions are available at the Harlequins training ground, Guildford.
Rollerblading
Roller derby is a great way to get active and socialise, so whatever your skill level, you can join a Learn to Skate programme with sessions available weekly.
Active Surrey
Active Surrey is a one-stop-shop for sports news and clubs in the county. It's also home to the Workplace Challenge, where you can challenge people from other local workplaces at a range of sports. For more information visit the Active Surrey website.
Staff discount at Guildford Spectrum
Get fit at the Spectrum with a Staff Active Card! We offer our employees a Spectrum discount card for a small fee, which gives discounted access to the gym, swimming, ice skating, exercise classes, bowling and the spa (subject to time restrictions).
CSSC Sports and Leisure
Guildford Borough Council employees are eligible to join the Civil Service Sports Council (CSSC) which is a not-for-profit organisation.
For a small monthly fee, our staff can access a wide range of sporting clubs and events, such as golf, archery, clay pigeon shooting, sailing, football, tennis and cricket. CSSC also offers a rebate scheme for entry fees to running and cycling events and financial support for umpiring, coaching and refereeing certificates.
