Celebrate our community with free road closures for The Great Get Together
Inspired by MP Jo Cox, The Great Get Together will take place on 22 - 24 June 2018. This national event aims to celebrate all that unites us as a community, and we are helping to keep costs down by waiving charges for road closures for the event.
Leader of the Council, Cllr Paul Spooner says: "Jo Cox has left behind an inspiring legacy which helps strengthen our sense of togetherness, and we hope that communities across the borough will come together to celebrate with their neighbours. We want to make sure everyone can be involved if they want to, so we have decided to waive road closure fees for The Great Get Together."
To apply for a road closure please visit: Apply for a road closure. Please apply as soon as possible and allow 4-6 weeks for processing.
The Big Lunch, Jo Cox Foundation, and many other groups are teaming up to invite people to join together with friends, neighbours and new people, for street parties, picnics, dances, BBQs and baking competitions.
The weekend marks the anniversary of the murder of Jo Cox, who said, "We are far more united and have far more in common with each other than things that divide us", and celebrates what would have been her 44th birthday.
The government has provided some guidance via Street Party to dispel common misconceptions about street parties and provide a basic outline to planning your Great Get Together.
