Children and young people's leisure and arts activities for all seasons

Did you know Guildford Borough Council offers a diverse range of activities and events for children and young people all year round? We provide the opportunity to take part in everything from outdoor activities to sporting and creative arts events throughout the year during term time and over the holidays. This year we also became one of the first councils to support Street Play initiatives where residents can apply to close their road and host community play sessions.

Cllr Iseult Roche, Lead Councillor for Community Health, Wellbeing and Project Aspire, says: "We are fortunate enough to have a leisure team who provide year-round opportunities for children and young people to engage in a whole variety of play, sport and arts activities, providing crucial support for children's development and wellbeing.

"Autumn is such a beautiful time of year for children to play outside as our parks look gorgeous in all their autumnal colours. It is well documented that playing outside is important for children's physical health and mental health. We are proud to provide lots of opportunities for children to play outdoors through our daily Playranger service and at our many play areas."

Hundreds of children and young people enjoyed a host of diverse events and activities provided by the team throughout the summer, including FISH (Fun in the School Holidays), Surrey Youth Games and Get Up and Get Active.

During October, the team has been hosting a programme of 10 free creative workshops for all the family across the borough. This has been part of the hugely successful initiative 'The Big Draw', the World's largest drawing festival. The Playrangers are also supporting the Council's Community Wardens to run the free 'Funerific Football' session at Bannister's Field, and the Lakeside Fun Day in Ash during October half term.
