Draft Guildford Town Centre Views Supplementary Planning Document

We are consulting on the new draft Guildford Town Centre Views Supplementary Planning Document (SPD).

The document is not creating new policy but will be supplementing Policy S3: Delivery of development and regeneration within Guildford town centre in the adopted Guildford borough Local Plan: Strategy and Sites. The SPD sets out a list of 15 viewpoints that help to reveal how Guildford developed and the importance of its relationship with the countryside beyond. Each view has been analysed and guidance provided for managing change within the view that will need to be assessed when considering new development proposals in the town.

The aim of the document is to provide guidance to planners, developers, designers and decision makers on how to manage change in key views. It is the intention that the document will be adopted by the Council and used by both developers and the Council to consistently and fairly assess the impact of development proposals on the important identified views.

The SPD demonstrates the Council's commitment to ensuring that design development contributes to distinctive, sustainable and attractive places in the Borough. It also meets the objectives of the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF, 2019) which stresses the importance of good design and the need to refuse permission for poorly designed proposals.

The consultation will run from Monday 17 June to 15 July 2019. For more information, to view the document and to find out how to tell us your views, please visit the Planning Policy consultation website at https://getinvolved.guildford.gov.uk. Hard copies of the documents will be available to view during the Consultation period at the Council office main reception at Millmead and in all Borough Council libraries (during usual opening hours).
