Guildford celebrates Armed Forces Day with special flag-raising ceremony

Guildford honoured Britain's Armed Forces Day today by hosting a special flag-raising ceremony at the Guildhall in the High Street.

Colonel Patrick Crowley, Deputy Colonel The Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment, joined the Mayor of Guildford, Cllr Richard Billington, a local veteran, a Chelsea Pensioner and Royal Grammar School Cadet Alex Norris on the balcony of the Guildhall as the Armed Forces Day Flag was raised at 12noon.
 

The Mayor of Guildford, Cllr Richard Billington says: "I am delighted to be taking part in the flag-raising ceremony. It is an important gesture that shows our appreciation for the contributions the Armed Forces have made for us. The people of Guildford are very proud of our Armed Forces with many regimental families and veterans living within the county of Surrey. Guildford will continue to raise awareness for the pivotal role of our Armed Forces."
