Have your say on our Strategic Development Framework planning document

Following the adoption of Guildford's Local Plan: strategy and sites in 2019, we are currently working on our preferred options for more detailed Development Management Policies to provide further guidance on future development in our borough.

These policies are intended to supersede existing policies in the 2003 Local Plan. We will ask the public for their feedback on this document in due course and before it is formally adopted it will be examined by an independent inspector.

We are also producing a number of supporting documents to explain and clarify the requirements and expectations of the overarching Local Plan. The first is the Strategic Development Framework (SDF) Supplementary Planning Document (SPD). The SDF SPD provides further detailed guidance on the Local Plan's five strategic site allocation policies. These are:

  • Slyfield Area Regeneration Project, now known as Weyside Urban Village (Policy A24)
  • Gosden Hill Farm (Policy A25)
  • Blackwell Farm (Policy A26 and A27)
  • Ash and Tongham Sites (Policy A31)
  • Former Wisley Airfield (Policy A35)

The SDF is a comprehensive guide for developers to ensure high quality design and placemaking. It will be used by site promoters in preparing their development proposals for these sites and by the Council in assessing planning applications. Supplementary planning documents such as the SDF cannot create new policy, they can only supplement adopted Local Plan policies and are for guidance only.

Lead Councillor for Planning, Jan Harwood said: "Our Borough is an attractive, safe and wonderful place to live and work and we are committed to protecting our vibrant heritage and environment while balancing the increasing pressure for new homes. Our adopted Local Plan and its collection of associated documents play an important part in how we shape and guide high quality development now and for the future. These frameworks will help develop our local economy, improve our facilities and support more sustainable travel. This guidance will be instrumental in ensuring all sites meet the expected design and sustainable standards we expect in Guildford."

We are consulting on the Strategic Development Framework (SDF) supplementary planning document for 5 weeks starting on Monday 20 January. To have your say, please visit:
