Supporter of the Guildford Lottery wins national prize

A local player of our Community Lottery won a national prize for a Family Forest Staycation when he bought tickets to support Guildford's radio station Kane FM in the Autumn prize draw.

We set up the Lottery to help good causes such as local charities, clubs, voluntary groups and school and pre-school PTAs  by connecting them with their communities to raise money in a fun and easy way. It is run by local authority lottery provider Gatherwell. Both good causes and players access the lottery online and it's entirely free to sign up to.

Causes that sign up will receive their own lottery page as well as free marketing materials and support. Tickets cost £1 and each good cause then receives 50% of every ticket bought directly from their page. Supporters who buy weekly tickets have a chance of winning the £25,000 jackpot as well as national prizes throughout the year. A further 10% of proceeds go to Guildford Philanthropy, a charitable fund set up by us in 2014 to transform the lives of less fortunate members of the community.

Cllr Julia McShane, Lead Councillor for Community says:

"Since its launch in 2018, the Lottery has raised over £100,000 for 130 local good causes in Guildford, including school PTAs, sports clubs and community groups. This unprecedented year has seen many local causes struggle to generate regular income, and the Lottery is the perfect way of continuing to raise funds while events are cancelled and restrictions are in place. It's all online and takes less than five minutes to sign up. You can visit www.guildfordlottery.org to find out how you can join for free."

Jenniann Davies, Director at KaneFM, the good cause that the winner of the national prize is supporting says:

"The Lottery money has mainly kept the station on-air as we have limited advertisers. It has been a great help during Coronavirus (Covid-19) as we can no longer raise our funds through events and it has made a considerable contribution towards our running costs. The Lottery is definitely worth the effort, particularly in times where funding streams are hard to come by."

Stuart Alexander, Founder of Big Mouth Guildford and a supporter of Kane FM says:

"The Lottery is a fantastic alternative way of generating a regular income. The scheme has helped a lot of local good causes and I recommend anyone who hasn't already to sign up! Kane FM is a really great local organisation and I'm so pleased the Lottery has managed to help them stay on-air."

As well as weekly cash prizes, supporters who buy tickets before 19 December have the chance to win one of five entertainment bundles. Each bundle includes an Amazon Echo Show 8, Echo Dot 3rd Generation and a Fire 7 Tablet.
