Over half of our equipment has now been reserved, apply fast to ensure you can take part...

The Great British Spring Clean is a national event that takes place over the weekend of Friday 3 March to Sunday 5 March 2017.

Following the success of last year's clean-up, which saw 250,000 litter heroes take action, Guildford Borough Council is backing this year's campaign to get half a million people out and about cleaning up their local communities.

We're calling on individuals, community groups, charities, sports clubs, business and many more to sign up and take part. With your help we can make the places where we live in Guildford more beautiful. The litter picking event will not only assist our street-cleansing teams in keeping the borough clean but it will also allow people to enjoy a few hours together and help to develop an increased community spirit.

Guildford Borough Council will support local residents who wish to take part by loaning litter picking equipment. We have over 100 sets off equipment for community use and we would like to distribute them all for the event.

How do I take part?

1. First of all, you need to decide which area in your local community you would like to clean-up. Have you noticed somewhere that needs a little attention? Well this is your chance to make a difference.

2. Secondly, you will need to know roughly how many volunteers will be taking part in your event. We will provide a maximum of 25 sets of equipment per group. However if demand is high, we may reduce this quantity to ensure that as many groups as possible across the borough can take part.

Please try not to overestimate the numbers in your group, this may mean that other groups miss-out on equipment. Also, remember one person can use the litter picker and one person can hold the rubbish bag, particularly if younger children are taking part.

3. To loan equipment please complete our community litter picking form.

4. When you have submitted the form you will be contacted within 7 working days to discuss the loan of equipment and to confirm further details.

When my equipment is confirmed

Once you have your equipment confirmed, please register your event on the Great British Spring Clean website so that the rest of the country knows that Guildford's residents will be out to beat the litter! Further information and resources to promote your event can be found on the  Great British Spring Clean website.
