What is The Village and where is it?

"The Village" is an exciting events and retail space, located behind the Friary Centre, between Commercial Road and Woodbridge Road.

It is made up of shipping containers which will house a mix of retailers, including food and drinks outlets. There will also be a stage area, licensed bar and large open green space.

How is it set up? The site consists of shipping container units (8 x 20ft), converted to provide stylish and flexible retail space. All units have glazed frontage, with optional shelving and are fully secure.

Who will come? The Village will be free to visit and will appeal to everyone, including families, students, local office and retail workers. It will also draw visitors from across Surrey and North East Hampshire.

Is water and electricity supplied? All container units have electricity. Five of the units have also been fitted for hot food, providing water and extraction. All traders will also have access to a communal water standpipe.

What are the hours of operation? The Village will be open from the middle of June until 24 December 2017 at the following times:

  • Wednesday, Thursday 10am - 8pm

  • Friday, Saturday 10am - 10pm

  • Sunday, 11am - 6pm (core trading hours 12pm - 6pm)

What is the rent? £80 per week for general retail. £100 per week for food and beverage.

What is the minimum / maximum tenancy? Applicants are invited to trade for a minimum of one month and a maximum of six months.

What are the access arrangements and is there parking? All traders will have vehicle access onsite outside of opening hours for loading/unloading. There is no on-site parking but you are welcome to use one of the public car parks nearby.

What facilities are provided? The site will provide a Wi-Fi hot spot to ensure prolonged customer engagement. Toilets are available for customers and traders.

What documentation do I need? Applicants will need to provide proof of Public Liability Insurance for up to £2m. Food traders must also be registered with Environmental Health.

How will The Village market be promoted?
