Guildford Renewable Energy Mapping Study

In February 2015, our Renewable Energy Mapping Study was published. It considered which areas in the borough best suit the following renewable energy technologies:

  • solar PV
  • solar thermal
  • wind turbines
  • hydro power
  • heat pumps
  • district heating

The report builds on the Government's mapping study (opens new window).

Read the renewable energy mapping study (PDF, 8 MB)(opens new window).

Why did we commission the study?

Renewable energy will help support Government policies. The Government aims to reduce:

  • carbon emissions
  • the amount of carbon used to supply electricity
  • the cost of importing fuel
  • the risk of fuel supply being disrupted (the risk rises if fuel comes from unstable parts of the world)
  • the amount of infrastructure needed to transport energy across the country

Locally generated energy would also have economic benefits for Guildford.
