Bringing communities together, dedicated community service and supporting our vulnerable residents. These are just a few of the things that 26 individuals and groups in Guildford have received a Mayor's Award for.

The Mayor's Award for Service to the Community celebrates people in the borough who went out of their way to improve the lives of others. It recognises those who have encouraged positive change and community spirit.

This year, 15 individuals and 11 groups received the award. Winners were invited to a formal presentation ceremony on Saturday, 29 April.

The Mayor of Guildford, Councillor Dennis Booth, said:

"I'd like to share many congratulations to all our deserving winners of this year's awards.

"Every one of them has given their invaluable service to our communities in their way. Thank you to those who took the time to nominate these exceptionally hard working and giving people. Your nomination means we can recognise and celebrate their achievements with the community.

"We had a significant number of nominations this year. I am inspired by each of their stories. During my Mayoral year I have been so lucky to meet so many of you and experience the huge sense of community spirit we have. These awards recognise the tremendous contribution that the winners have made to residents of Guildford".

Pat Sheridan, from the Surrey FRS Veterans Hub, received an award for his effort and commitment to raising awareness and supporting the hub. As part of Pat's support to the programme, he set up a sensory garden at the hub for veterans to feel safe and at peace. Pat said:

"I am both honoured and humbled to receive the Mayor's award for something that is a team effort. I accept it on behalf of the team for something that I see as a privilege - supporting our veterans in their time of need. It is exceptional to spend time with the veterans, who come from all services, who pop in for a chat and a cup of tea. I'd like to say a special thanks to Chief Fire Officer Dan Quin, for his support with the veterans. Without that, the hub would not happen."

The Mayor's Award for Service to the Community is kindly sponsored by The County Club, High Street, Guildford.

Kevin Lorimer, General Manager of the County Club says:

"The Mayor's Awards are an important event for the Borough, recognising the unseen hard work done in our community. The County Club is proud to sponsor these awards."
