What you need to know

The election of the Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) for Surrey will take place on Thursday 2 May 2024. To vote in this election you will need to register to vote. You will also need a registered form of ID (opens new window)

Who is the PCC? 

The Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) holds the Chief Constable and Surrey Police to account on behalf of the public. They also oversee how crime is tackled in Surrey. They aim to make sure that Surrey Police provides a good service. 

What is the Surrey Police Area? 

The Surrey Police Area is made up of the 11 district and borough councils in the county. They have Local Returning Officers who are responsible for arranging and delivering the poll for the electors in their area.

Who can vote in the PCC election? 

To vote in the PCC elections you must:

  • be registered to vote
  • be 18 or over on the day of the election
  • be registered at an address in the area you want to vote in (overseas electors may not vote in these elections)
  • not be legally excluded from voting

You must also be one of the following:

  • a British citizen
  • an Irish or EU citizen
  • a qualifying Commonwealth citizen, who has permission to enter or stay in the UK, or who does not need permission
