It's all about Playtime in new exhibition at Guildford Museum

Playtime! exhibition at Guildford Museum

Visitors of all ages can explore vintage toys and games in a new hands-on exhibition at Guildford Museum, with free entry for all.

Playtime! - a fun, educational and interactive exhibition - showcases some of the childhood objects from the Museum collection. With games to enjoy, and vintage toys to reminisce about, the Museum has become a haven of play.

Cllr Catherine Houston, Lead Councillor for Commercial Services, says: "Play helps us to foster social and emotional skills, fuels our imagination and feeds our creativity. There's something on offer for all ages and interests in this exhibition - we're sharing toys and games that are old, and not so old. Come along and join in the fun!"

The exhibition is a great opportunity for all the family to come along to Guildford Museum and try out Playtime! for themselves.

There will also be a variety of free family activities taking place at the Museum, alongside the exhibition:

  • Playtime Fun! Teddy's day out craft and storytime: Friday 11 April, 10.30am to 11.15am.

Listen to stories, make a teddy mask, and don't forget to bring teddy along too! This is a first come, first served session, suitable for children aged 2 years and above.

  • Playtime Fun! Toytime: Friday 11 April, 2pm to 3pm.

Come along to explore and play with the toys in the exhibition. This drop-in session is suitable for children aged 3 years and above.

  • Playtime! Relaxed opening: Wednesday 16 April, 10.30am to 11.30am.

For children on the autism spectrum, we'll open the Museum outside normal opening hours for a chance to see the Playtime! exhibition and make a paper flextangle. This session is suitable for children aged 5 to 12 years.

Pre-booking is essential - email heritageservices@guildford.gov.uk

  • Playtime Fun! Fascinating flextangles: Wednesday 16 April, 12.30pm to 2.30pm.

Join the Museum team for flextangle fun and make a colourful paper toy inspired by the exhibition. This drop-in session is suitable for children aged 5 years and above.

The Playtime! exhibition will run until November.

Admission to Guildford Museum is free. The Museum is situated on Quarry Street and is open Wednesday to Saturday, 12noon to 4.30pm (with last entry at 4pm).
