Guildford pays tribute to veterans for VJ Day 80

- We honour the courage and sacrifice of the Second World War generation.
- We pay special tribute to the British and Commonwealth veterans who served in Asia and the Pacific
- We remember all those who gave their lives in the pursuit of peace.
Commemorating this solemn occasion
Our Armed Forces Champion, Cllr Stephen Hives, laid flowers of remembrance at the First and Second World War memorial in the grounds of Guildford Castle. This act of reflection honours not only those who served but also the enduring legacy of peace they helped secure.
Armed Forces Champion, Cllr Stephen Hives, said:
"On this 80th anniversary of VJ Day, we honour the extraordinary bravery, resilience and sacrifice of those who served in the Far East. Their courage in the face of unimaginable hardship helped secure the peace we enjoy today. It is our duty to remember them, not just today, but always."
As a mark of respect, the Council is proudly flying the VJ Day 80 flag at some of its buildings, including:
- the Guildhall
- Guildford Castle
- Stoke Park Nurseries
- Millmead
