Bin collections

Due to the high temperatures forecasted, our bin crews will be starting collections earlier than usual to help keep them safe in the heat. Community Governance Review for Worplesdon - Stage one

This consultation covers the Rydeshill parish ward, so we've written to the households in that ward. However anyone can tell us what they think.

You can:

  • support the proposed name change from Rydeshill Ward to Broad Street Ward.
  • not support the proposed name change.
  • suggest a different ward name.

Why is this review taking place?

Worplesdon Parish Council has asked Guildford Borough Council to carry out a Community Governance Review.

The review is needed because the Parish Council wants to change the name of one of its parish wards before planned parish council elections in May 2027.

The ward was named "Rydeshill" in 2024 by the Local Government Boundary Commission for England. The only way to change the ward's name now is through a Community Governance Review.

The Council has agreed to undertake this review under the provisions of the Local Government and Public Involvement in Health Act 2007.

This review must be completed before 1 April 2027 when the new West Surrey Council takes over all existing council services.

What is being reviewed?

Worplesdon Parish Council considers that the name "Rydeshill" does not accurately describe the geographical area and could be confusing for residents and voters.

The Parish Council says that Rydes Hill Common is in the nearby Villages Ward, which is north of the area currently called Rydeshill Ward. Therefore, the Parish Council has asked for the ward to be renamed "Broad Street Ward".

This review is only about changing the ward name. No ward boundaries are being reviewed or changed.

Consultation timetable

28 July 2026
Guildford Borough Council approved the Community Governance Review and its Terms of Reference.

17 August to 20 September 2026
First public consultation with residents and stakeholders.

3 November 2026
Guildford Borough Council will consider draft recommendations.

16 November to 11 December 2026
Second public consultation on the draft recommendations (if approved by Council).

19 January 2027
Guildford Borough Council will consider the final recommendations.

February 2027
The West Surrey Shadow Council will make a Reorganisation Order, if required.

May 2027
Parish council elections will take place where seats are contested.
