Settlement Hierarchy Study

The Settlement Hierarchy Study forms part of the evidence base for the new Local Plan. This study groups settlements with similar functions and characteristics. It ensures we: 

• understand the roles of our settlements 
• plan positively for sustainable development 

The study also helps us direct development towards either: 

• the most sustainable settlements 
• settlements which can be made more sustainable by additional growth
