Bin collections

Due to the high temperatures forecasted, our bin crews will be starting collections earlier than usual to help keep them safe in the heat. Please make sure your bins are out the night before, as collections will take place from 6.00am for the rest of the week. Thank you for helping our crews work safely during the hot weather.

Traveller Accommodation Assessment

A Travellers' Accommodation Assessment identifies how many of the following we need:

  • pitches for Gypsies and Travellers
  • plots for Travelling Showpeople

For planning purposes these groups are collectively referred to as 'travellers'. Gypsies and Travellers tend to call the land they live on a 'pitch' and Travelling Showpeople call it a 'plot' or 'yard'.

Our consultants, Opinion Research Services, are undertaking a new Traveller Accommodation Assessment in 2026, including interviewing members of our travelling community.

The last Traveller Accommodation Assessment for Guildford was undertaken in 2017: Traveller Accommodation Assessment 2017 (PDF, 1 MB)(opens new window)

Previously, from 16 January to 1 February 2017, our consultants Mill Field Services talked to local travellers to find out about:

  • overcrowding
  • whether travellers are doubled up on pitches or plots
  • likely housing needs of young adults over the next five years

We analysed feedback from the interviews alongside other data. This meant we could work out the need for new pitches and plots in Guildford. Find out how we involved stakeholders in the Traveller Accommodation Assessment Consultation Record 2017 (PDF, 906 KB)(opens new window).
