Local government in Surrey is changing, from 1 April 2027, Guildford Borough Council and Surrey County Council will be replaced by a new unitary authority called West Surrey Council.

The Liberal Democrat Party won 56 of the 90 seats available - meaning it holds the majority. West Surrey Council will operate as a 'shadow authority' alongside existing county, district and borough councils for the first year.
