Close your council tax account

What happens next?

We'll aim to close your account within 10 working days and issue you a final bill in the post. We will contact you if we need further information.

Refunds of overpaid council tax

You may be due a council tax refund.

This is if the amount you paid this year is more than you needed to pay for the time you were living at the property.

If there is a credit balance on your final bill, you can apply for a refund.

You'll need to:

  1. log in to your MyGuildford account (opens new window)
  2. click to access your council tax account
  3. You'll see a green panel at the top of the screen inviting you to start the refund process.

Refunds are only paid into bank accounts.

Closing your MyGuildford account

Once you've paid all the council tax you owe, if you no longer wish to use your MyGuildford account you can close it.

You'll need to:

  1. log in to your MyGuildford account (opens new window)
  2. click the 'my account' tile on the dashboard
  3. click 'close your account'

If you close your account, you'll no longer be able to access your information. We'll store your personal information for two years. It will then be deleted.
