A tale of water and walls - two new exhibitions about the landscape that defines our town

Two exhibitions will open in July to celebrate Guildford's architectural and natural gems.
Town Tales: Guildford's Iconic Buildings tells the story of how the town has grown from a Saxon settlement, to a prosperous market town. Highlights of the history of the town's architecture over the last 1,000 years.
Weyside Stories: The River Wey in Guildford explores the beautiful watercourse that runs through the borough. Art, activities and artefacts bring to the surface the significance of the River Wey.
Lead Councillor for Commercial Services, Cllr Catherine Houston, said:
"These exhibitions are an excellent introduction to the history of our town.
"Our stunning buildings and river define Guildford's landscape. They have also been vital to the growth of our town over the last 1,000 years.
"This is an enjoyable introduction for everyone, to the River Wey and Guildford. Why not come and enjoy learning more about your local history, and the landmarks you share with your ancestors?"
Alongside the exhibitions, enjoy themed, family friendly activities and special events.
Weyside Stories: The River Wey in Guildford opened on 1 July at Guildford Museum and runs to 28 October 2023.
Town Tales: Guildford's Iconic Buildings runs from 8 July until 14 October 2023 at Guildford House Gallery.
