Have your say on the future of local councils in Surrey

Take part in a landmark Government consultation on proposals to replace Surrey's current councils with up to three larger authorities. We support a three unitary approach - Find out more and read our consultation question guide.

Join us for a special online engagement session hosted by the Leaders of Guildford and Waverley Borough Councils on Thursday 3 July from 7pm to 8pm via Microsoft Teams. We'll explain what Local Government Reorganisation is, outline the different options being considered, and show you how to get involved. Sign up for the session (opens new window).

First phase of the Local Plan update is underway

View of Guildford

Did you know we have a legal obligation to review our Local Plan within five years of its adoption? There have been a lot of changes to the way we live since the existing plan was adopted in 2019, so in February our Full Council agreed that an update to our Local Plan: Strategies and Sites (2019) (LPSS) was necessary.

This update will focus on making sure our borough keeps up with the housing, retail, green spaces and commercial needs of our communities.

What's happened so far?

The first phase of the process will consider the budget, timetable and scope of work required to update the local plan. This phase should be complete before the end of the year when more clarity on the Government's approach to planning reform is expected. A report detailing these findings will come back to Executive for review and approval.

Where can I find updates and share feedback?

We'll keep you updated throughout the process. You'll be able to have your say, but things won't happen right away.
