How to vote in the General Election

Vote by post

To vote by post, you must complete a postal vote application form. These are available on the governments website. (opens new window)

We must receive your completed postal vote application no later than 5pm on Wednesday 19 June 2024.

Postal vote handling and secrecy

Recent law changes ban political campaigners from handling postal vote packs but, there are some exceptions. We may reject and not count packs handed in by political campaigners.

If you vote by post, you should return your postal pack using Royal Mail. If you decide to return your postal vote in person, you must complete a short form in all cases. Do not post your completed postal pack through the letter box at our offices - any returned this way must be rejected.

There is a limit to the number of postal vote packs that a person can hand in. If you plan to hand in your postal vote pack at our offices or a polling station, you will need to complete a form with a staff member. If you do not complete this form, we must reject the votes handed in and won't count them. Forms will be available within the our offices and at polling stations.

Voting by proxy (someone voting on your behalf)

To vote by proxy you need to ask someone you trust to vote on your behalf. You must complete a proxy vote application form. You can complete some proxy applications on the governments website. (opens new window)

We must receive your completed proxy vote application no later than 5pm on Wednesday 26 June 2024.

The deadline for a postal-proxy (where your appointed person wishes to vote by post) is 5pm on Wednesday 19 June 2024.
