Rethink waste is a scheme delivered by Surrey Environment Partnership in collaboration with Greenredeem, a free waste-reduction scheme for all Surrey residents.  Its main aim is to reduce the amount of waste that Surrey residents produce and put into rubbish bins.

As part of the scheme, primary schools in Surrey are invited to take part for time-limited periods. During this time, they have the chance to win money to fund an environmental project of their choice.

Lead Councillor for Environment and Climate Change, Cllr George Potter said:

"It was such a pleasure to visit Clandon C of E and Northmead primary schools and present them with their cheques. It just goes to show that the small can be mighty and make a difference in the world.

"I was delighted when I learnt that two Guildford schools had won money by taking part in the Greenredeem Rethink waste initiative. Encouraging people to better recycle their waste has such a direct impact on climate change.

"We're proud to have one of the highest recycling rates in the country in Guildford and schemes like this further support our efforts. I'm really encouraged that by following the example of these two schools, we can all do better with our waste."

Tom Lewis, Outdoor Lead at Northmead said:

"Our school has been blown away by the generosity of Green Redeem. The £1250 is going to go towards expanding our outdoor learning provision so that we can get as many children learning outside as possible."

Cllr Potter went on to say:

"As a council we're committed to creating a more sustainable borough. A borough that values environmental responsibility as we work to shape a greener future for all."

This supports one of our key priorities—creating a more sustainable borough. Learn how we're committed to creating a Greener, Fairer, Thriving Guildford for everyone.
