Bin collections

From Monday 6 July, our bin crews will be starting collections earlier. Please make sure your bins are out the night before, as collections will take place from 5.30am. Thank you for helping our crews work safely during the hot weather.

St Edward, part of the Berkeley Homes Group, is the developer of the North Street Regeneration scheme.   

The regeneration site consists of approximately 4 acres in the centre of Guildford bounded by North Street, Commercial Road and Leapale Road along with the existing Guildford bus station. 

What will the project deliver?

The project will deliver:

  • 477 highly sustainable new homes, including 47 affordable homes in the town centre
  • 2.2 acres of public realm featuring a wellness garden and a new town square
  • a newly refurbished bus station
  • the pedestrianisation of North Street between Leapale Road and Commercial Road
  • the planting of 115 new trees, boosting local biodiversity
  • new medical centre premises available to serve the community's needs

Visitors to Guildford town centre will notice some changes have taken place and other works underway.

What's happened so far?

  • Woodbridge Road has closed
  • a new junction has been constructed at North Street and Onslow Street
  • a new taxi rank has been constructed
  • a new in out junction has been constructed north of the bus station
  • Leapale Road has been widened and resurfaced ready to be made two-way later this year
  • junction works at North Street and Leapale Road has started
  • demolition has been completed and excavation of the site has commenced
  • two new buildings are being constructed on North Street

What's happening next?

St Edward will continue work to transform Guildford town centre, bringing fresh energy and a renewed sense of community to North Street.

This major regeneration will revitalise a previously underused, concrete-heavy area, with significant improvements to the bus station and surrounding public spaces remaining central to the plans.

Local businesses outside the development site will remain open and operating as usual throughout the construction period.

Key milestones:

  • Spring 2026 Junction improvements at Leapale Road and North Street have begun, including widening to enable two-way traffic. North Street market will be temporarily relocated.
  • Autumn 2026 Work will commence to reconfigure Commercial Road for better bus station access.  Works will also commence to pedestrianise North Street between Leapale Road and Commercial Road.
  • January 2027 Refurbishment of the bus station begins.
