Guildford joins Surrey-wide Landlord's Webinar to prepare for Renters' Rights Act changes
We are joining district and borough councils across Surrey to support a free on-line webinar for private landlords and letting agents, taking place on Wednesday 11 March from 6.00pm to 8.30pm.
This Surrey wide event co-ordinated by Mole Valley District Council is the first fully-online landlord's event that Surrey has run. It aims to provide key updates on the Renters' Rights Act set to come into force on 1 May 2026. This webinar is designed to help landlords understand the new legislation and support the continued delivery of safe, secure and high-quality homes across Surrey.
The Act will introduce a number of significant changes for landlords including; an end to "no fault" evictions and fixed term contracts; new rules on when rent can be increased; how properties can be advertised, and clearer guidance on tenants owning pets in their rental home.
The webinar will feature expert speaker Tessa Shepperson, a solicitor specialising in landlord and tenant law for more than 25 years. Tessa provides training and guidance across the property sector and runs a long-standing online Landlord Law service supporting landlords and letting professionals nationwide.
The webinar is free to attend and open to all private landlords and lettings agents operating in Surrey including those who rent property in the county but live elsewhere. Attendees will also hear about future in-person landlord forums taking place across Surrey districts and boroughs. A selection of questions will be answered during the session, with further responses to common queries published online after the event.
Cllr Merel Rehorst-Smith, Lead Councillor for Regulatory Services, said:
"The Renters' Rights Act marks one of the most significant changes to the private rented sector in many years, and it's important that landlords feel confident and well‑supported as these changes come in.
"This Surrey-wide webinar is a great example of councils joining forces to offer clear, practical advice for landlords and letting agents. By helping people understand what's required, we can work together to improve standards, strengthen security for tenants and ensure good‑quality homes remain available for residents across Guildford and the wider Surrey area.
"I'd strongly encourage all landlords and letting professionals connected to Guildford to make the most of this free session."
