Take part in Guildford's acts of Remembrance
We're encouraging residents and visitors to join this year's acts of Remembrance, as communities across the borough pause to honour the courage, service and sacrifice of members of the Armed Forces.
Whether attending the Borough Service of Remembrance, observing the two-minute silence, or supporting local events, you are invited to take a moment to remember those who have served and those who never returned home.
Remembrance Sunday on 8 November
The Borough Service of Remembrance will begin at 9.45am at Holy Trinity Church. Shortly before the service begins flowers will be laid under the VC stones in Tunsgate.
All are welcome to attend the service. It will also be livestreamed on the church YouTube channel.
Following the church service, a parade will form at the top of Guildford High Street and march to the Castle Grounds for the two-minute silence and wreath laying at the war memorials.
Armistice Day
On Wednesday 11 November, a short ceremony will take place in front of the Guildhall.
Everyone is welcome to gather from 10.50am on Guildford High Street and observe the two-minute silence at 11am.
Cllr Julia McShane, Leader of the Council said:
"Remembrance Sunday is an opportunity for us to come together as a community to honour the courage, service and sacrifice of those who have served in the Armed Forces.
"As we pause to reflect, we also remember the families who supported them, the emergency services, and everyone whose lives have been affected by conflict and terrorism."
Cllr Stephen Hives, Armed Forces Champion, added:
"These acts of Remembrance are a powerful reminder of the courage, resilience and selflessness shown by generations of servicemen and women, and of our responsibility to ensure their legacy is never forgotten."
Poppy Appeal
When you see volunteer Poppy Appeal collectors, please donate to support serving and ex-serving men and women, and their families. The Mayor of Guildford, Borough Councillors and Honorary Freemen will be collecting in Guildford town centre on Friday 6 November and Saturday 7 November.
Donations for the Poppy Appeal can also be made on the British Legion website.
