Due to the Coronavirus outbreak, and in line with the Government and Public Health England advice, our Playrangers service is not currently available.

Playrangers

Playrangers is an exciting project which encourages children to play freely outdoors. All children are welcome to join the free sessions that are held after school in five locations around Guildford (under-8s must be accompanied by an adult).

Playrangers flyer
The Playrangers are qualified and experienced play workers who run play sessions based on using the natural environment as well as child-led play.

Playranger sessions run every weekday during term-time. They are a great way for children and young people to get outside, be active and make new friends. Sessions are aimed at 8 to 12 year olds, however under-8s are welcome if accompanied by an adult.

Playranger dates

Playrangers are currently not delivering sessions.

The sessions are free and the Playrangers come equipped with lots of play resources, games and ideas.

Information for parents and carers

The Playranger Project is an open access service which means children are free to come and go as they please. This is not a childcare service. Children under 8 will be able to take part but must have parental supervision throughout the session. Please read our  icon Information for Parents [457.4KB] for more information. All parents with children will be welcome to join in at sessions.

Children will need to wear something appropriate to the weather and expect to get dirty. Playing outside is fun and messy and is likely to lead to grass, mud coming home on children's clothing.

Playrangers believe that children can play in all weathers as long as they have appropriate clothing, and will deliver sessions in all weathers, adapting their activity to ensure the children have fun.

Please do not forget sun hats, sun cream and plenty of drinks for your children during the warm weather and gloves, scarves and hats during cold winter evenings.

We need all parents to complete a  icon Registration form [358.14KB] on their first visit to a session.

Following initial registration, each child will be asked to provide the Playrangers with their name and age only for the register for each session.

All parents and carers with children attending will be requested provide contact and emergency details.

Covid-19 guidance

Playrangers staff are working hard to help keep everyone safe from Covid-19 at our sessions. Please help us by taking the following steps:

  • reminding your child to try to keep 2 metres apart from anyone not in their household
  • making sure your child washes their hands for at least 20 seconds before and after sessions
  • on arrival and during sessions please ask your child to use the hand sanitiser at 'Base Camp'
  • do not let your child come to a session if they show any Coronavirus symptoms. They will be asked to leave
  • please tell us if your child develops Coronavirus-like symptoms within 48 hours of coming to Playrangers

There may be less play equipment at sessions to help us clean up easily. We will carry out careful cleaning at the start and end of sessions and throughout sessions.

Benefits of play

Children will be encouraged to assess risk and learn how to take precautionary measures to keep themselves and others safe.

They may have a chance to take part in an activity not otherwise accessible to them.

Activities will enhance development of fine motor skills, hand/eye co-ordination, plus team working and communication skills.

Playranger sessions help build social interaction skills and encourage the sharing of food and equipment.

Children will experience a sense of achievement and accomplishment in learning to use a new skill, boosting confidence and self-esteem.
