Request to film in Guildford
What you need to know
Guildford and the surrounding area provide a stunning location for film makers. We have welcomed film crews from around the world for dramas, television series and films.
To film Guildford's historic buildings, public car parks or land owned by us you must follow our application process.
Filming events will not go ahead without a written confirmation from us.

Fees
A scale of fees and charges is set yearly. The fees are based on the:
- nature
- size
- scale
- duration of the filming event
The minimum filming fee charge is £65.
We may offer a discount to students or news reporters.
The filming fee will be confirmed when we have received your filming application.

Apply to film in Guildford online
Once we've received your application, we'll:
- check your application
- write to you and acknowledge your application
- confirm fees and charges
- confirm if your event will be reviewed by the Safety Advisory Group (SAG)
- let you know about any additional requirements
Before your event can be confirmed, you will need to:
- fill in our risk assessment template (Word doc, 111 KB) or provide your own risk assessment
- attach a copy of your Public Liability Insurance certificate
- provide a site location and event layout plan
- provide any other details we have asked for
You can email your application and supporting documents to parks@guildford.gov.uk
What happens next?
When we've received all the necessary documents and information needed from you, we'll:
- write to you by email and confirm that your event can go ahead
- invoice you for the hire of the park
Filming on private land
If you're planning to film on a private land (land not own by us), you'll need permission from the landowner.
For filming on the highway, contact Surrey Film Office.
For other locations such as filming National Trust properties, River Wey tow paths, Albury Estate, Newlands Corner, the University of Surrey, Loseley House, Surrey Sports Park or the Business Park, contact the landowners directly.
Hire a film unit base
Film unit base is where the makeup, costume, and cast trailers are located, as well as crew parking and catering.
