What you need to know
We're sending Section 46 Notices to all households in our borough in 2023. These tell residents how to manage their waste. The notices are issued under the Environment Protection Act 1990. You'll receive a notice even if you're managing your waste correctly.
What does this Section 46 Notice cover?
- where to put out your bins for collection and at what time
- when to bring your bins back in once we've emptied them
- what you should and should not put in your bins or sacks
Why are we sending Section 46 Notices?
- we're required to do so by law
- residents and councillors have reported issues and this notice will help us resolve them
- it encourages residents to keep our streets clean and tidy
- it encourages residents to recycle more and reduce waste sent to landfill
What happens if the rules of the notice are broken?
We'll send a reminder of the rules to you and tell you which rule has been broken.
If you regularly break the rules we will investigate if we need:
- to give you more information on how to manage your waste
- to issue a £80 Fixed Penalty Notice (FPN)
- to issue a Community Protection Notice warning letter, as outlined in the Anti-social, Crime and Policing Act 2014
