Refreshed Housing Improvement Plan announced

Refreshed housing improvement plan

We have announced our refreshed Housing Improvement Plan, a single comprehensive improvement plan aligning regulatory standards, feedback and external recommendations.

Leader of the Council and Lead Councillor for housing, Cllr Julia McShane expressed her passion for the refreshed plan:
"The wellbeing of our tenants remains at the heart of our housing service. We are committed to providing safe, compliant, and comfortable homes for all. This is not a new Improvement Plan, but the existing Housing Improvement Plan refreshed, reinforcing our ongoing journey of continuous improvement.

"This comprehensive plan aligns regulatory standards, resident feedback, and external recommendations, sharpening our focus on delivering high-quality housing services. The Housing Quality Network (HQN) recommendations are now embedded in everything we do, and we are grateful for the external challenge they have provided.

"We recognise there is still work ahead, but our commitment to lasting, positive change is unwavering. We continue to be monitored by the Independent Assurance Panel and work closely with the Tenants' Engagement Group and councillors to measure progress and outcomes. This ensures we stay on track to fully deliver the objectives outlined in the original plan and continue to build a resilient, well-managed council that residents can trust and take pride in."

The Chair of the Tenants' Engagement Group, Alan Wood added:
"We know the council are working hard behind the scenes to correct past issues and create a future where all residents have a safe, well-maintained home and a housing service that listens, responds, and works with us to make things better. It's really positive to see how the feedback we are giving is being taken onboard and demonstrably integrated into the Improvement Plan on an ongoing basis."

The refreshed Housing Improvement Plan supports our Corporate Strategy priorities by ensuring local people have access to decent, affordable homes and fostering a resilient, well-managed council through improved governance, resident engagement, and service delivery.
