Housing options

Explore your housing options using our toolkit

If you wish to explore the housing options available to you, our  housing options self-assessment toolkit contains a wealth of advice and self-help measures to get you started and understand the available options and assistance available.

If you already have an active housing application with Guildford Borough Council, you can login to the housing options toolkit using your housing reference number and password. Alternatively, you can create a new account to use the toolkit.

Most people, even with a longstanding local connection to the borough, will wait approximately 4 - 5 years on average for Council or Housing Association accommodation.

If you are unsure what type of housing might be available to you, our housing options self-assessment toolkit will provide you with information and advice.

Council and Housing Association properties

We advertise council and Housing Association properties through the Guildford Homechoice website.

Due to a shortage of council and Housing Association properties, there are more households on the register than properties available. This means you may face a very long wait before being successful in receiving an offer of accommodation. Unfortunately, many on the council's housing register may never receive an offer. Therefore, you may need to explore other housing solutions, which may be faster and meet your needs in the short or long term.

If your housing need is urgent there are organisations that can offer you advice and support, including the council's housing advice centre, specialist housing advisers based at the Citizens Advice Bureau or Shelter, the housing and homelessness charity. An adviser will go through your personal situation with you to help you decide what the best options for you are.
